2004 Chicago Marathon

By the grace of God, though sweat, tears, pulled muscles, chaffing and blisters, we did it! We completed the 26.2 miles of the Chicago Marathon. Afterwards, Danielle said, “You know, the first 15 miles was fun!” She was right. The weather, neighborhoods, people, and live bands all came together for a terrific run. Then came the reality that 26.2 miles is a very long distance :)

We started counting down the mile markers. Looking ahead for the sign that said we were one mile closer to our goal. Around mile 20 other runners started to drop out. We could see the defeat on their faces and we thought, “No way, we’re not giving up!” Mile 13

When we saw mile marker 25, a tear came to our eyes as we realized we had made it -- just over one mile to go. I looked at her and said “Let’s shorten this mile” and with that we were running at a pace we hadn’t managed since mile 18.

We rounded the corner at mile 26 for the home stretch. It was a great feeling to make that final dash for the finish line and realize we had made it.

We would like to thank everyone for their prayers, words of encouragement and support!
